Family camping trip to Malaekahana

So this weekend we decided to take the plunge and take the kids tent camping for their first time.  The place? Malaekahana State Park for our church's annual family camping trip.  Some of the hardest work turned out to be getting the car loaded before we left!

But once we were on the road, the views were amazing.

Camp!  We scored a nice spot and made friends with the neighbors.  The beach was less than 100ft away.

We had been concerned that the kids wouldn't like being in the tent at night.  Turns out that wasn't exactly the problem.  The problem was SLEEPING in the tent at night.
The next day we played and played and played.  Family water balloon toss, marshmallow run, water fights, and on the second night... after s'mores and s'mores, sleep came easy for all.
By Sunday morning, everyone was ready to relax.
We all gathered for a morning church service near where we'd had the big bonfire.  Hans loved the music and campfire songs the night before.
Time for one last trip to the beach.  The waves were a little rough, but Kristina went for it with the paddleboard.
Sunday afternoon came and it was time to head home with our heavily loaded van.   A little mexican food on the way home was perfect medicine on the way to an early bedtime.

  1. Wonderful times together!
Camping is the best, including, in some strange way, all the work. Wonderful!
