I remember when I was a girl, my sister and some cousins loaded into the station wagon, our lanky legs sticking to the hot vinyl seats, and sweated our way to Freedom Pool. We poured out into the August sun and lined up to have our arms marked with the "deep end pass", a Marks-A-Lot tattoo that meant we could swim. And oh, was I surprised and thrilled when I figured out what the "8-8-88" meant. It was the 8th of August, 1988, a rare palindromic day; we were making history!
To this day, I've loved this stuff. How about YrekaBakery? My friend Ryan from Yreka, equally impressed with palindromes, told me about this bakery that I'm sure makes excellent pastries. How could it not? Or (this is just a cool number thing) there's the day I went to the Cardiff Post Office and there were cookies and drinks set out on a little table. So I asked, "What's up?" And the mailman said, "It's Zip Code Day!" "What?" I asked. He wasn't really helping yet. "It's Sept. 20th, '07" he replied, as if everybody knew there should cookies in the post office in mid-September. And then it clicked. 9-20-07. 92007 was our zip code! How cool! From now on, I'm going to watch for Zip Code Day, and bring cookies to the post office. Too bad Kailua is 96745. No Zip Code Day here; shucks.
But it is 08-08-08!
What's your favorite palindrome?
Friday was close to the 8-8-88! I wondered if you would remember, but I forgot to ask. 80808 this time; does that work? Last year I should have done better in class with the palindrome idea, since I did have 2 sweet Hannah girls. Veru good!
ReplyDeletewhy am i laughing so hard? yes-totally thought of that day, because the berry's were there and i didn't want to wash off the number. pretty good i was only barely 8 and was a hot shot deep end swimmer! first off, probably couldn't tell you what a palindrome was until your blog post, 2nd - zip code day?!?! ours is 92075... missed it...
