I love keeping the Sabbath. It seems it's one of those forgotten commandments that don't appear all that important, (Jesus and his disciples 'broke' it, right, so why should I have to keep it?). But this morning as I was swinging in the tire swing with Hans and felt this insistent nagging that there was something I should be doing, I realized that no, I really shouldn't be making muffins or reorganizing my file cabinet or tackling the laundry. I should be swinging with Hans, and Trey should be lying on the living room rug reading, Annika should be napping, and I should be doing nothing more than swinging in the yard.
We crave vacation, time to get away from it all, a break from our frenetic activity, and God has been offering it, all along. A vacation every week? That sounds too good to be true! But maybe just because we don't go ahead and take it.
beautifully put - keep these coming. love your thoughts.
ReplyDeletethank you.
ReplyDeleteToday in class Dillon was quite upset when someone disagreed with his Saturday Sabbath. Our real neglect is giving a day, any day, back to God so he can refresh us. May I quote you tomorrow? :)
thanks for the great reminder :o) i'll surely keep mine this week... and be so grateful for those foundational rules to live by!
ReplyDeleteI'd be honored if you shared this with your class!
