We Quit

On Thursday, after a gripe session with my dear friend Kristen (who successfully potty trained 2 of her 3 kids), I finally decided to ask Hans if he even really cared anymore about the "big-boy potty".

K: Do you want to just wear diapers?
H: Yeah.
K: Do you still want to learn to go on the potty?
H: Nah.
K: Are you sure?
H: I want to wear diapers.

So there you have it. I have since learned that I broke about as many potty rules as I could :
  1. NO negativity or stress on my part (even if there's more mess on the rug than in the potty, for the 15th time)
  2. DON'T ask "Do you have to go potty" 1oo times a day
  3. DO say "Remember to tell me when you need to go potty" a million times a day
  4. DO be consistent
  5. Find SOMEONE ELSE to take care of your poor baby girl at least part of the time because you'll spend a ridiculous amount of time reading Curious George in the bathroom
But I did get a couple things right:
  1. REJOICE over the little successes!
  2. REWARDS (especially chocolate) are a-ok (and you deserve them too, whether or not there's any potty success, so keep your own stash)

I just started with Asa. Mainly b/c all the kids in his preschool are going to the 'WC' without him. SO I told Miriam that we ALL get candy whenever he goes in the potty. She is so cute standing there cheering him on. THanks for the pics! I loved them and you!
